Disposable Contacts
These are the most commonly prescribed contact lenses. They are available in daily, two-week, monthly, and quarterly replacement schedules. Dr. Wallach works with you to determine which is best for your lifestyle, prescription, and ocular health. Disposables can be done in a variety of prescriptions including astigmatism, bifocal, colors, and monovision. Improved technologies makes extended/overnight wear of contact lenses safer than ever.
Astigmatism
It is essential to know whether astigmatism is internal or corneal to determine the best contact lens. What is astigmatism? It is best demonstrated on a corneal topography -- such as Dr. Wallach does on every patient -- in its most common form as points of elevation on the corneal surface. The less common form of astigmatism is when the points of elevation are on the lens surface inside the eye. Dr. Wallach patiently works through the process of choosing and modifying the astigmatic contact prescription. Bifocal lenses are also available to correct astigmatism.
Bifocal Contacts
Bifocal contact lenses are designed very differently from bifocal and/or progressive glasses lenses. Head movement usually does not effect vision. Bifocal contacts can allow for functional near and distance vision. This design is available in soft disposable and rigid permeable contact lenses.
Corneal Refractive Technology
Corneal refractive technology (CRT) is the ultimate alternative to LASIK vision surgery. A rigid contact lens is worn overnight -- similar to an oral retainer -- to reshape and flatten your cornea. In the morning, you take out the contacts, and the new shape of your cornea corrects your vision. CRT lenses' effect on the cornea is completely reversible. Dr. Wallach is excited to offer this new technology with more comfortable plasma-treated lenses.
